Short on time but want to make something spooky? These spider chocolate chip cookies are exactly what you're looking for! Take your favorite chocolate chip cookie recipe (if you don't have one, scroll down for one of my faves), bake 'em and then add some spider legs to any chocolate chips showing and boom - creepy, spider chocolate chip cookies!
SPIDER CHOCOLATE CHIP COOKIES
Makes 48 small cookies. Adapted from gimmesomeoven.com.
INGREDIENTS:
- 1/2 cup of softened (room temp) butter
- 1/2 cup of packed brown sugar
- 1/3 cup of granulated white sugar
- 1 egg
- 3 teaspoons of vanilla
- 1 1/2 cups of flour
- 2 teaspoons of cornstarch
- 1 teaspoon of baking soda
- 1/2 teaspoon of salt
- 1/2 teaspoon of cinnamon (my favorite secret ingredient!)
- 1 cup (or so) of chocolate chips (I like to measure this one with my heart)
- 1/2 cup of chocolate chips (for the spider legs)
DIRECTIONS:
- Combine your dry ingredients: flour, cornstarch, baking soda and salt.
- In a separate bowl, with a handmixer, cream your softened butter and sugars (brown and white) together until it's pale yellow color. Add your egg and vanilla and mix together until fully combined.
- Add the dry ingredients into the wet ingredients and mix until combined.
- Fold in the chocolate chips!
- You're going to hate me but pop this dough, covered, into the fridge for at least 30 minutes. I know, I know. I hate this part. Honestly, you don't have to but it definitely tastes different if you do.
- Heat oven to 350 degrees and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- Remove the dough from the fridge and roll/scoop into 1 inch balls. Yes, they're tiny at first but they do spread out to a slightly bigger cookie. Nonetheless, I do consider these little mini cookies.
- Bake for about 10-12 minutes. I do 10 minutes!
- Take them out and let them chill for a little.
- Take the 1/2 cup of chocolate chips for the spider legs and melt in the microwave in 15 second intervals until it's fully melted.
- Take a toothpick (or anything small like that), dip it into the chocolate and create the spider legs on any chocolate chips showing on the cookies. If there isn't a chocolate chip showing, just make a body by swirling the melted chocolate into a small circle.
- Let the chocolate cool after decorating and enjoy! 🕷
Let me know if you make these in the comments!
